North Central Ballet is excited to bring Fairy Doll to the Historic Palace Theatre. Take a magical journey into a toy store where the beautiful handcrafted dolls come alive at night and perform dances from across the globe. Fairy Doll, originally Die Puppenfee by composer Josef Bayer and first performed in 1888, was one of the most successful productions in the late 19th century.
BALLET SYNOPSIS
The curtain rises on a toy shop. Various customers and trades people arrive. An English family, a Scottish family and a child with a broken doll, they are shown MaMa PaPa dolls, Chinese and Spanish dolls as well as Tyroleans, harlequins, drumming bunny dolls and finally the Fairy Doll.
The English family are enraptured by the Fairy Doll, place an order to buy her and arrange for her to be delivered. They leave and the shop closes for the night.
As midnight strikes the shop magically comes alive and all the dolls dance the Fairy Doll waltz.
Disturbed by the noise the shopkeeper, now rushes in but finds everything in order. He stands puzzled as the ballet ends with a tableau of dolls around their fairy queen.
ABOUT NORTH CENTRAL BALLET
North Central Ballet was founded in 1993 with the intent to enrich the environment of our community through education, performance and dance related activities. North Central Ballet provides a training for the beginning dancer as well as serious dancers who wish to develop a stage presence while advancing their education. Dancers who are proficient in classical ballet and pointe work are eligible to audition for the company. In all things we strive to instill the desire for excellence in art, cooperation among young people and a sense of pride in our community.
