Sponsor a Nash Farm Lamb
Spring brought five new lambs to Nash Farm’s flock of Gulf Coast Native Sheep. Our flock is used to educate the community about livestock and farm life in 19th century Texas. The sheep are used daily for school tours, adult classes, community visitors and more. Demonstrations in sheep shearing are given each spring along with workshops and programs for all ages throughout the year. The wool fleece acquired is used in Nash Farm’s programming showing the process from fleeces to finished goods. The sheep are an important part of Nash Farm and sharing our heritage for future generations.
The Farm is seeking individuals or businesses to sponsor the lambs with a tax-deductible donation to Nash Farm under the care of our operational organization, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation. If you would like to sponsor a lamb for $100, you’ll get the opportunity to name your sponsored lamb, and receive recognition on our website, in publications and at on-site events. Anyone can support the flock by donating any amount. Each supporter of $10 or more will receive correspondence with updates on the lambs as they grow.
Gulf Coast Native Sheep are a heritage breed listed at the “critical” level with the Livestock Conservancy. This breed derives from Spanish sheep and are adept at life in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. While they have wool fleece on their bodies, they have hair on their face and legs allowing them to inhabit the warmer climate of the south. The Nash Farm Gulf Coast Sheep flock are raised as livestock, not pets.
